I believe this makes sense... indeed neuroscientists have demonstrated that the "reptilian brain or Old Brain" plays a key role in the process of decision making. This part of the brain is often associated with the unconscious: let him decide without too much deliberation from the neo-cortex (as when you focus your neo-cortex on solving a puzzle) and you've got yourself a pretty good decision!
